Which Type of Roof Does My Property Need?

It can be difficult to know where to begin when considering a new roof for an existing or new property. That’s why we’ve put together this short guide to explain some of the different types of roofs we’re skilled in and what their properties are. At The Russell Asphalt Company, we have many years of experience with different types of roofs and have the knowledge to be able to recommend the right options for our commercial and domestic customers across Sussex, Surrey and Kent.

Roofs perform the incredibly important function of protecting a property and those within it from the outside elements and protecting the interior against rainwater. However, roofs also play a major role in defining the overall look and style of a house. Roofs can also make properties more energy efficient and weather proof, so it’s incredibly important to work with a company who will take all of this into account when helping you choose a roof for your home or place of business.

Roof Tiles and Lead Roofs

By far the most popular choice within the UK for protecting roofs is roof tiles. This is what is used on the majority of homes and many businesses around the country. Roof tiles come in a variety of different materials, colours and finishes and there are many which are specially designed to be used on houses with specific pitches.

Slate tiles are one of the more expensive types of tile out there, but are incredibly popular thanks to the fact the slate ages and changes over time but always looks beautiful. We are experts in slate tile roofs and have installed and repaired hundreds of slate roofs across Eastbourne and beyond.

Lead roofs are another type of roof that we specialise in here at The Russell Asphalt Company. They’re used on some of the most iconic buildings in the UK and are extremely long lasting and hard wearing. We can install entirely new lead roofs, or simply carry out patch repairs if required.

Single Ply Roofing, Built Up Roofing and Asphalt Roofing

When it comes to single ply roofing, our team specialise in two different types – Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) and Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM). Both TPO and EPDM are energy efficient, hard wearing and puncture, tear and abrasion resistant.

Built up roofs are known for their excellent waterproofing properties and can promote energy efficiency. They’re suitable for various different types of buildings, including businesses and residential properties. We also offer insurance backed guarantees on all of our built up roof installations lasting for 25 years.

Asphalt roofing is the other roofing system that we supply and install. We can install asphalt shingles or asphalt membrane roofing, which is suitable for flat roofs. Asphalt is a material that repels water and is long lasting and cost effective making it a great choice for many.

To find out more about any of the roofing systems listed above, or for advice on what system would be best for your home or business, our team would be delighted to assist.
